Chicken Dinner Sunday November 9, 2014 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM K of C Hall


Fr. Peter will have altar servers practice on Sundays, November 9th and 16th from 9:15am- 10:15am. All altar servers are welcome to attend.

Sunday TV Mass--Do you know someone who can’t get to Mass?
Please tell them about the Sunday TV Mass, which is produced by the Archdiocese of Washington and taped in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is a wonderful ministry for those members of our Catholic family who are unable to be physically present with a local worshiping community for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy.
The Mass airs every Sunday at 10:30am on WDCW-50. (Sometimes with our own Deacon Jim Dominic)

St. John's will be hosting a Women’s Day of Reflection on Saturday, Nov. 8th starting at 8:00am. The day will begin with Mass, followed by continental breakfast.
There will be two talks by Fr. Charlie Gallagher of Our Lady of the Wayside parish in Chaptico, with a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration and confessions starting at 10:00am.
We will end with benediction and closing prayer around noon. Please RSVP to Catherine Schwartz at 228-365-0657.

There will be a Southern Maryland Mass with Eucharistic Adoration and Healing Prayers on Monday, November 10th, at 7:00pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Concelebrants will be: Father Dan Leary, Father Marco Schad, Father Scott Woods and Father Charles Cortinovis.
Confessions will begin at 6:30pm. All are welcome! Contact Catherine at cathrich7@md.metrocast.net.

Historic St. Mary's City Madrigal Dinners will take place on Dec. 5th, 6th & 7th and December 12th & 13th.
Herald the start of the holiday season with feasting, fire light, friends, and beautiful music at a colonial Madrigal Dinner.
HSMC will host the 43rd annual series of celebrations in the State House of 1676.
Enjoy delectable fare from Expressions of St. Mary's. Following wassail and appetizers, the meal will feature stuffed chicken breast, pork tenderloin and oysters.
Admission is $85 for the general public ($80 current Friends Members).
Reservations are required and open to the general public on Oct. 10th (Oct. 8th for Friends Members).

Immaculate Heart of Mary Fall Dinner
Nov. 2nd from noon to 5:00pm in the Parish Hall.
The menu includes: MD stuffed ham, fried oysters, fried chicken, parsley potatoes, pickled beets, candied sweet potatoes, rolls/butter, warm cider and a dessert table.
Cost is $23.00 and children 12 and under $10.00.

Advent Package--After each mass throughout St. Michael's School News the month of November, Advent wreaths, candles and calendars will be on sale for $10 a set in the sacristy.
This is a special way to celebrate the season of Advent.

Ladies of Charity Events (click for more info)
The Ladies of Charity conducted a bake sale for the SMS Cash Bash and was able to raise $320 in support of the upcoming Senior Christmas Dinner.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00pm in the Church Sacristy. The meeting date changed due to a school event.
Teresa Wood has made a BEAUTIFUL quilt which is being raffled off. Tickets are now being sold for $1 each or 6 for $5. Please contact Carolyn Wood at 301-872-5482 if you would like to purchase tickets.
The drawing will take place during the Fall Festival on Sunday, November 23rd.
The Ladies Day of Prayer is scheduled for Monday, December 1st.
The Senior Christmas Dinner will be held on Thursday, December 4th.
Anyone interested in joining Ladies of Charity is invited to attend.

Weekend Retreat for People Facing Serious Illness:
A special retreat planned for men and women facing serious physical illness will be held at the Dominican Retreat House in Mclean, Virginia on Dec 12-14, 2014.
A team of doctors, nurses, priests, sisters and helpers will be present around the clock. Scheduling allows plenty of time for rest and reflection.
This retreat is offered free of charge. It is a non-smoking weekend.

World Youth Day--St. Mary’s Ryken High School students have the opportunity to go to World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland in July 2016. Students will follow the Footsteps of Saint Pope John Paul II, visiting his hometown and all of the places important in his life before becoming Pope. We will then welcome Pope Francis to Krakow and spend four days celebrating our rich Catholic faith with him and tens of thousands of catholic youth from all over the world.
This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity and students will make memories that last a lifetime.
The cost of the trip in $4000.00 for round-trip airfare, four-star hotel accommodations, World Youth Day registration, tours, land transportation, and most meals. We plan to fundraise to make the cost more affordable.

American Legion Events: Bingo every Tuesday at 7 pm. Doors open at 6 pm. Senior citizens are welcome to come for card games, friendship and a meal starting at 10am Wednesdays. Steak night second Saturday of the month 5 to 7:30pm. Call (301)872-5349 after 6pm for more information.
